Duke Medical School is consistently rated as one of the top five medical schools in the country and Duke Medical Center is internationally known and respected. Since it opened in Durham, North Carolina in 1930, Duke University Medical Center has earned a reputation as one of the world's foremost patient care and research institutions.

In addition to providing world-renowned health care, Duke is experienced in meeting the special needs and concerns of international patients. The Duke International Patient Center is dedicated to assisting you before, during, and after your stay in the United States to ensure your experience with Duke is a positive one.

Duke University School of Medicine offers a variety of curricula and resources that focus on the international audience, including a Multicultural Resource Center and several student organizations and groups. Courses such as "Exploring Medicine: Cross-Cultural Challenges to Medicine in the 21st Century" focus on understanding the cultural background of the people of Honduras and how that impacts the delivery of medical care. The course includes a trip to Honduras as an optional laboratory experience.

The inaugural class of 26 medical students at the Duke-National University of Singapore Medical School began classes on August 1, 2007, launching an ambitious education and research partnership that is unique for U.S. medical schools.

<>In establishing Duke-NUS GMS, Duke becomes one of the first medical schools to offer a U.S. medical degree on foreign soil. The school is unique to the Southeast Asia region as well because it requires medical students to already have a post-secondary degree, unlike the norm there where students head to medical training straight out of high school.
The Duke-NUS GMS seeks university graduates and masters and PhD degree holders to enter training to become physician-scientists. Scholarships for MD students and a stipend for MD/PhD students are available from the school. Graduates of Duke-NUS GMS will receive a joint degree from Duke University and the National University of Singapore.
